چکیده

Ultra-Low Power Wake-Up Receivers for Wireless Sensor Networks by Nathan Michael Pletcher Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences University of California, Berkeley Professor Jan M. Rabaey, Chair The realization of truly ubiquitous wireless sensor networks (WSN) demands ultra-low power wireless communication capability. Because the radio transceiver consumes power whenever it is active, it most efficient to leave the receiver off and wake it up asynchronously only when needed. A dedicated wake-up receiver can continuously monitor the channel, listening for a wakeup signal from other nodes and activating the main receiver upon detection. By maximizing the node sleep time without compromising network latency, the use of a wake-up receiver can improve overall network performance. Wake-up receivers are also applicable in asymmetric links such as “active” RFID, where the tag listens in standby mode until queried by a reader.

T-ROME: A Simple and Energy Efficient Tree Routing Protocol for Low-Power Wake-up Receivers

Wireless sensor networks are deployed in many monitoring applications but still suffer from short lifetimes originating from limited energy sources and storages. Due to their low-power consumption and their on-demand communication ability, wake-up receivers represent an energy efficient and simple enhancement to wireless sensor nodes and wireless sensor network protocols. In this context, wake-...

Exploiting Concurrent Wake-Up Transmissions Using Beat Frequencies

Wake-up receivers are the natural choice for wireless sensor networks because of their ultra-low power consumption and their ability to provide communications on demand. A downside of ultra-low power wake-up receivers is their low sensitivity caused by the passive demodulation of the carrier signal. In this article, we present a novel communication scheme by exploiting purposefully-interfering ...

Ultra low power MAC layer wake-up frame scheme for low cost and low traffic wireless sensor networks

Wireless sensor networks, as a key enabling technology of Ubiquitous Computing, have been a booming research topic in the recent years. Upon designing a low-cost wireless sensor device, power consumption is one of the most important issues, because cheap batteries are normally the power suppliers. Since the RF transceiver is one of the biggest power consumers in such a sensor device, enabling t...
